Every recommendation on Outgearly follows the same process. This page explains it, so you can judge for yourself how much weight to give what we write.
How products get selected
We start from the reader’s problem, not the product list: what does someone actually need, at what budget, for what situations? From there we shortlist candidates across price ranges — bestsellers, category staples, and newer options that look genuinely promising — and narrow by specifications, real-world reputation, and value.
How we evaluate
- Hands-on use where possible. Products we own or can obtain get used the way you’d use them — not unboxed, photographed, and returned.
- Research everywhere else. Where we can’t test directly, we draw on manufacturer specifications, expert coverage, and patterns in long-term owner feedback — hundreds of real reviews read for recurring praise and recurring complaints, not just the star average.
- Transparency about which is which. When an assessment is research-based rather than hands-on, the article says so.
What we won’t do
- No paid placements. Coverage, rankings, and verdicts cannot be bought.
- No commission-driven rankings. Affiliate earnings (see our Affiliate Disclosure) never influence which product tops a list.
- Samples with no strings. If a manufacturer sends a sample, that fact is disclosed in the article, and it buys them nothing — including protection from a negative verdict.
Corrections and updates
Products get discontinued, prices move, and sometimes we’re wrong. We update articles when the facts change and correct errors when readers point them out — significant corrections are noted on the article itself. Spotted one? [email protected].
